Happy World Emotional Health Day! Today, we take a moment to recognize the importance of emotional well-being and the incredible professionals who support others in their mental health journeys. At Pinoy Therapy, our counsellors and therapists dedicate their time and energy to guiding clients through life’s ups and downs, but what do they do when they need a little boost themselves?

One universal source of comfort and joy is music. Just like their clients, our therapists turn to their favourite OPM (Original Pilipino Music) tunes when they want to relax, recharge, or simply feel good. To celebrate this special day, we asked some of our counsellors what they listen to when they need a mood boost.

Here’s what they had to say:

Therapist-Approved Playlists for Emotional Well-Being

Anna Marquez

Counsellor

RAINBOW by South Border
This song reminds me that no matter how many hardships and difficulties we face, things will always get better. The line “There’s a rainbow always after the rain” symbolizes that a bright and colorful rainbow appears after every tough situation—bringing hope, happiness, and the promise of better days ahead.

Che Rebano

Counsellor

Manila Bay by Flu

The song evokes a bittersweet, nostalgic feeling. The imagery of Manila Bay, sunsets, and the sea sets a romantic scene. There’s underlying sense of loss and longing, at the same time, cherishing moments that once were.

Dulo ng Hangganan by IV of Spades

This song is quite poetic and emotional, exploring themes of love, loss, and uncertainty. It reminds me of how complex relationships can be, nothing is guaranteed or certain. It’s one of those songs reminding you that it’s okay to be vulnerable.

Erl Mangmang

Psychologist

Puso by Spongecola

As a former athlete it allows me to ground myself that whenever you put your heart into something and the intention is good, there’s no losing only enjoying, learning, and improving.

Marilag by Dionela

I like how he also painted the song into something that’s a gesture of God’s image among all of us.

Junnevy Millora

Psychologist

Liwanag sa Dilim by Rivermaya

A powerful song about hope and resilience, reminding us that even in the darkest times, there is always light.

Lady Aseremo

Counsellor

Leaves by Ben & Ben

What I like about this song is it conveys a deep message of healing, personal growth, and the importance of forgiveness. From its lyrics, “Leaves will soon grow from the bareness of trees, and all will be alright in time”, it reflects the idea that healing takes time, and though things may seem empty now, eventually they will get better.

I listen to this song whenever I’m feeling tired and need to find a sense of calm. It allows me to unwind, clear my thoughts, and reassures me that things will be alright, giving me the emotional reset I need to feel recharged. Listening to “Leaves” by Ben&Ben serves as a gentle reminder that hope exists, and I have the inner strength to overcome the challenges I’m facing.

Music and Mental Health: How Therapists Use Playlists for Emotional Well-Being

By sharing their go-to playlists, our therapists want to remind everyone that they, too, experience emotions just like anyone else. Music is a powerful tool for emotional health, and sometimes, the right song can be just as therapeutic as a heartfelt conversation.

This World Emotional Health Day, we celebrate not just mental well-being, but also the people who help us achieve it. Thank you to all the therapists, counsellors, and mental health advocates for the work that you do. And to everyone reading this, don’t forget to take a moment today to check in with yourself, play your favourite song, and embrace the joy of music!

We’d like to end this blog post with our Admin team’s chosen song, Awitin Mo, Isasayaw Ko by VST & Company.
